The Look: Wearing the Fullmetal Alchemist Pocket Watch

As many of you know, I’m quite a lover of all things nerdy and consume tons of media in my free time. I’m a big anime fan (see my Sailor Jupiter look), and my favorite one of all time is Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. My friends know of my total obsession with this show (what’s wrong with re-watching something every single year?) and I was recently given a great prop from the show! Thanks so much for the perfect gift from my bestie! I found that Edward Elric’s pocket watch is not only a fun thing to own, but makes a great accessory! So I am writing this post to share a few ways that I’ve worn it in the last week. Read on for my looks!

The first outfit I wore with this watch was an over-size beige sweater and jeans. I also wore a denim shirt under the sweater. This is a go-to look for me in the winter because the layers help me survive the brutal Chicago winter and it is super comfortable. I got this sweater at Goodwill quite a while back and just can’t let it go! The pocket watch is a great pendant necklace, or a necklace that has one large piece hanging from a chain. I find that this kind of necklace is the easiest and best way to accessorize a shirt without a pattern or print. It adds a little something to an otherwise plain outfit.

The other outfit I created was loosely based on the colors Edward wears in the show (mainly black and red, see above). I wore a black loose T-shirt with a maroon cardigan on top to emulate Ed’s black tank and red cloak. You can’t really get away with a Chicago winter outfit that lacks a sweater or jacket of some sort anyway. I wore black pants and combat boots like Ed, with a more feminine feel because of the long sweater. The final touch was the watch, which is the clear statement piece. The dragon on the outside is super distinctive, and you might not even realize that it’s from an anime and not just a damn cool locket. It’s even more cool when you open the watch and see the inscription and working clock.

I know there are plenty of people with cool nerd accessories like this one who might be looking for a good way to use this piece in their daily life. I find that wearing a shirt or accessory like this one usually results in compliments from people who just think it looks cool, or helps make new friends who recognize the reference! Sometimes it helps to match colors and inspirations from the characters like I did as well. I hope you enjoyed this post about one of my favorite hobbies and shows!
